Born in 1971 in the Netherlands, Sharon Duymel is an Auckland-based artist. Having trained at Browne School of Art, Sharon is currently completing her Masters of Fine Arts at Whitecliffe College of Arts.
Sharon has exhibited her work widely throughout New Zealand, and her work is represented in private collections in New Zealand, Dubai, Singapore, Japan and the United States. Public collections include the Parliamentary Collection and the New Zealand Portrait Gallery, Wellington.
Sharon’s practice is representational, using oils on canvas or linen with large scale composition pursuing themes of strong personal interest and connection. “I see my painting as a way to unlock my own limitations of communication”.
Her practice is primarily autobiographical as she struggles to voice her pain and experience, and so she articulates her personal journey and ongoing exploration through her creative conversation. “My works subliminally address the issues that arise deep from my unconscious, whilst also being a reflection of influences from the past.”
Sharon will have works in one of the eight houses on the Tour.
