House 1

9 Omana Ave, Epsom

This grand, turn of the century, Georgian style property is now a much-loved family home, but its past is full of drama and mystery.

Originally built by a merchant and named ‘Omana’ after his boat, it was a nursing home before falling into the hands of a notorious Auckland businessman (whose signature Lion heads can still be seen dotted around the house.) In 2002, the house was gutted by a suspicious fire. Since then, it has been painstakingly restored, and now features a gorgeous Davinia Sutton Kitchen, meticulously detailed 12-foot ceilings and striking interior design by At Space. The renovation pays tribute to the house’s elegant past, a cheeky nod to its infamy, as well as serving the needs of a busy, bustling family.

This home features artists Belinda Griffiths, Brad Novak ’89, Finn Wilson ’09, Harry Moores, Joanne Kreyl, Juliana Trolove, Karley Feaver, Kath Batchelor, Mark Thomas ’65, Michel Tuffery, Raymond Jennings, Roger Mortimer, Sharon Duymel and Yana Meech.
