House 6

5 Takutai Street, Parnell

Recently chosen as the location of movies produced by both Netflix and Amazon, this is one of Parnell’s grand old homes with a rich history of design.

The American Cape Cod design is the work of Malcolm Draffin, best known as one of the architects of the iconic Auckland War Memorial Museum. Draffin applied the construction methods and materials from his larger commercial buildings to this residential home, which boasts cedar panelling and joinery and Georgian quarterpane
windows. In the 1950’s, New Zealand architect Robert Patterson was engaged to modernise the home internally. Built in 1929, this house is coming up for its centenary.

This home features artists Chiaroni, Felicity Jones and Mark Smith, Gordon Pope, Lucy Eglington, Kate Barnett, Neil Donaldson, Oliver Cain, Sara Langdon, Richard Wells, Sean Beldon and William Milo.
