Five concentric ripple fields are fused into a single form, each one radiating from its own centre point according to the same rule: equally spaced rings expanding outward in perfect radial symmetry. Where the fields overlap, the ridges collide and interrupt one another, producing the layered, faceted creases that run through the piece’s centre — a physical echo of wave interference, where overlapping oscillations reinforce each other at some points and cancel out at others. The copper lacquer finish catches this collision of geometries in shifting light, revealing a surface that is at once mathematically precise and unpredictably alive.

Duotone lacquer on cast resin, 600 × 600 × 50mm

A concentric field of ridges spirals inward toward a single vanishing point, the surface shifting from deep violet to cool blue as the light moves across it. Cast in resin and finished in a duotone lacquer, Ultraviolet uses the mathematics of the ripple — the same rhythmic, rule-based patterning found throughout the Procession series — to suggest a moment of natural motion held still. Viewed from different angles, the piece appears to pulse, echoing Murray’s ongoing exploration of algorithmic form and the fluid dynamics of water and light.
