Michelle Viskovich is a dedicated artist whose work is deeply inspired by the natural environment. Originally from West Auckland, her youth was spent at Piha, which inspired her love of landscapes and seascapes. This connection to her surroundings is evident in her use of oil and acrylic paint on board, capturing the vibrancy and luminosity of reflections while skilfully blending abstract techniques with realism.
Utilising subtle mark-making with brushes and palette knives, Michelle manipulates paint to create cohesive and evocative compositions. Michelle has been painting for 25 years and works in interior design, where she blends her artistic skills with her design work.
She currently practices locally with the Platina Street Art Group in Auckland, where she is mentored by the esteemed artist John Nicol.

This evocative oil painting captures the grandeur of Camel Rock, standing proudly against the powerful backdrop of the West Coast ocean near Piha. The artist employs both palette knives and brushes to build up the textured surface through multiple translucent layers, creating a deep sense of atmosphere.
The rugged strength of the rock, shaped by nature’s relentless forces, is mirrored by the ferocity of the ocean as it crashes against the shore. The artist’s skilful layering of paint and mediums gives the scene a luminous quality, balancing the raw beauty of the land with the ever-changing motion of the sea. The rich textures bring out the contrasts of light and shadow, offering a visceral connection to the wild, untamed spirit of Tamaki Makaurau’s coast.
